Liquid Bitcoin Foundation
The Liquid Bitcoin Foundation is an independent steward of the Lombard ecosystem, incorporated in the Cayman Islands. The Foundation serves as the governance and resource allocation layer for the Lombard Protocol, directing ecosystem development funds and ensuring long-term protocol sustainability.
Role
The Foundation fulfills three primary functions within the Lombard ecosystem:
Permissionless Innovation with BitcoinThe Foundation supports the development of an open, permissionless Bitcoin ecosystem where builders and users can create and access Bitcoin-native financial products without gatekeepers. By funding grants, partnerships, and research, the Foundation lowers barriers to innovation on Bitcoin.
Lombard Ecosystem GrowthThe Foundation directs resources toward growing the Lombard ecosystem, including funding DeFi integrations, chain expansions, developer tooling, and community programs. The Foundation's 20% allocation of BARD supply (200,000,000 tokens) is deployed to maximize long-term ecosystem impact.
Protocol StewardshipThe Foundation provides governance oversight for the Lombard Protocol, including facilitating BARD holder voting on Security Consortium composition, fee structures, product roadmap, and ecosystem grant allocation. The Foundation ensures governance processes are transparent and that the protocol evolves in line with community interests.
Reporting
The Foundation maintains transparency through regular reporting on token allocation decisions, ecosystem grant disbursements, and governance actions. Reports are published to inform the community about how Foundation resources are being deployed and their impact on ecosystem growth.
Operating Principles
The Foundation operates according to the following principles:
IndependenceThe Foundation operates independently from the Lombard core team, ensuring governance decisions serve the broader ecosystem rather than any single entity
TransparencyAll significant token allocation decisions and governance actions are documented and publicly communicated
Long-term alignmentThe Foundation's token vesting schedule (4.25% at TGE, remainder linear over 3 years) ensures resources are deployed gradually for sustainable growth
Community-drivenBARD holders participate in governance decisions through the Foundation, directing ecosystem resources and protocol parameters
AccountabilityThe Foundation is incorporated as a legal entity in the Cayman Islands, providing a formal governance structure with defined responsibilities and accountability
